Railway typography – French

Something I kept from a trip from Paris to Venice a long time ago. These placards were placed on the outside of the carriage so you knew where you were heading. An interesting variety of typefaces. Any ideas as to names…

  1. I remember noticing the layout and typography of this placard at Paris Gare de Lyon…1972. In those times, I collected paper ephemera, labels from tins and food, matchboxes, and objets trouvees. I still have a small corner chunk of marble engraved with a Roman street name. What else have you collected?

    1. Hi Carrie – if you look through the blog you will find other examples of printed ephemera – much like you I collected bits and pieces through the years. My passion is letterpress though. Happy New Year.
